Interviewer:
What drew you to the world of aesthetic medicine and ignited your passion for helping people transform?
Dr. Evans:
My journey into aesthetic medicine began with a growing awareness of the unmet needs in the realm of sexual wellness. As a board-certified OB/GYN with over 18 years of experience, I’ve cared for women from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
I noticed a common thread among them – a lack of resources and support for female sexual dysfunction, and this is something that significantly impacts women as they age.
This realization and a patient’s suggestion to explore bioidentical hormone balancing ignited my passion for helping women transform. I delved deep into training and research, discovering the profound impact of hormone balancing on women’s lives.
I became a speaker for Biote® and EMSELLA®, advocating using aesthetic technology to promote sexual wellness. It’s incredibly rewarding to help women feel their best, both physically and emotionally.
Interviewer:
When developing treatment plans, how do you consider the whole person—their emotional and psychological needs?
Dr. Evans:
Listening attentively and allowing the patient to lead the conversation is essential. Often, women come in with a specific idea of what they want, but by truly listening, I can uncover deeper emotional and psychological needs that may influence their desires.
I often see patients who have been victims of rape and sex trafficking. Their reasons for seeking treatment go beyond physical appearance; it’s about restoring their sense of self and reclaiming their bodies.
Whether it’s addressing concerns about function, confidence, or past trauma, I strive to create a safe and supportive space for women to explore their options and achieve their goals.
Interviewer:
If you could summarize your philosophy into a few key principles, what would they be? How do these principles guide your interactions with patients and your approach to treatment?
Dr. Evans:
My philosophy centers on feminine rejuvenation – the art of combining technology and medical expertise to address a woman’s form and function. This principle guides every interaction I have with my patients.
I believe in educating my patients about their bodies and treatment options, empowering them to make informed decisions about their care. I also strive to create a welcoming and comfortable environment where women feel safe discussing intimate concerns.
It’s about more than just performing procedures. It’s about building trust and helping women feel confident and empowered in their own skin.
Interviewer:
Can you recall a patient encounter that deeply moved you and helped shape how you approach your work?
Dr. Evans:
One patient encounter, truly memorable, involves a woman in her late 30s who came to me requesting a vaginoplasty. While her physical examination appeared normal, she desired increased tightness, hoping to address a sense of looseness that had bothered her for years. I listened to her concerns, and we decided to move forward.
During her post-operative appointment, she was visibly emotional. Through tears, she revealed a deeply personal and painful experience. She confided in me that she had been a victim of sex trafficking until the age of 19. This experience had left her feeling violated and insecure about her body.
She said she had never felt comfortable or confident in her body. The vaginoplasty, while addressing her physical concerns, also became a powerful step towards healing and reclaiming her sense of self.
“’You gave me my life back!’” – Vaginoplasty Patient
This experience deeply moved me. It highlighted the profound impact these procedures can have on a woman’s sense of femininity, womanhood, and self-worth. It wasn’t just about the physical change but about restoring her confidence and helping her move forward from a traumatic past.
She told me that she had avoided relationships and intimacy because of her insecurities. But after the surgery, she felt a renewed sense of hope and was finally able to open herself up to the possibility of love and connection.
This encounter was a powerful reminder that my work goes beyond the physical aspects of medicine. It’s about helping women heal physically and emotionally and empowering them to live their lives to the fullest. It’s about recognizing the strength and resilience within each woman and supporting them on their journey to wholeness.
